The Power of Possibility

Paradigm shift.  How many times have you heard that expression used to describe new ideas that ultimately proved to be anything but?  I know of one technology magazine editor who outlawed any mention of the term in his publication (along with that other old chestnut, the zeitgeist) to encourage contributors to focus on the true [...]

itsmyiPad Review: Flight Command HD

Flight Command for iPhone is one of my favourite games on the Apple App Store and so I was really looking forward to playing the new, super-sized iPad version, Flight Command HD!  I can’t confess to being able to get anything like the belief-defying high scores of some players (if you need proof that some [...]

itsmyiPad review: Granimator

“Granimator – The Wallpaper Creator” is a free and unconventional drawing app that is one of the most satisfying and creative ways to spend 30 minutes that I have yet discovered for my iPad.

Make the iPad your complete mobile office

The most popular put down for the iPad seems to be something along the lines of “Yes, but what if you want to work on proper documents – create baffling spreadsheets or tweak that presentation you’re going to be give to the board tomorrow. What then? For that, you don’t need a lightweight, [...]

iPad surges past Android, iPod Touch

July 1, 2010 iPad News No Comments

According to NetApplications, browser usage share on the iPad has already surpassed usage share on both the Android platform and the iPod touch.

Since the number of Android and iPod Touch units sold vastly outnumber iPad units sold, Net Applications concludes that this is an indication that the iPad is used much more frequently per user for browsing.

What’s interesting is that whilst the iPod Touch share has remained static, the Android’s has doubled.  It’s just that the iPad has seen phenomenal growth from zero to the current share of 0.17%, 0.3% higher than Android.

Obviously these are very small numbers but one needs to remember that this is the browser share of all Internet traffic, not just mobile platforms.  And the iPad’s emergence comes after only three months on the market.  Things can only get even better from here.

Add PDFs to your iPad via iBooks

Regardlesss of the merits of the iPad HD display versus the e-ink screens favoured by Amazon, Sony et al, Apple’s Book store is growing in popularity and already shaping up to be as comprehensive and ubiquitous as the iTunes Store has become for music.

But one feature that I really like about the iBooks app is the ability to store PDF files. For professionals, this makes iBooks the perfect library for sales brochures, marketing material, training guides, manuals, catalogues and price lists – any kind of document, in fact, that can be saved and viewed in the universal PDF format. Although with iOS4, iBooks is now available on the iPhone, this method of document storage really comes into its own on the iPad. So here’s a quick overview of how you achieve this. … Continue Reading

itsmyiPad review: Bento for iPad

Bento is Filemaker’s popular consumer database program and one that has recently undergone the inevitable iPad face lift. The program is aimed at casual users who want to structure personal information relating to home, hobbies and home office activity. For more advanced users who want to create sophisticated databases using SQL or web-based functionality, Bento is not really suitable. So how does the app measure up? … Continue Reading
